25 Jan Three Boston men arrested in fentanyl drug bust
Three Boston men were arrested Wednesday for allegedly pushing large amounts of fentanyl in a drug ring that spanned from Dorchester to Plymouth County, and apparent efforts to flush some of the contraband down the toilet failed miserably, according to authorities.
In a statement, Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office identified the suspects as Delfin Daniel Mendez, 33, Jose Armando Reynoso, 21, and Omar Saldana, 27. It wasn’t immediately clear who was providing legal representation for the suspects. They were apprehended after a two-month probe.
Police apprehended Mendez and Reynoso around 4:35 p.m. Wednesday as they were traveling in an Acura for which investigators obtained a search warrant, the release said. The men exited the vehicle, and Mendez tossed a bag containing about 10 grams of suspected fentanyl, the statement said. State Police found a digital scale and cash inside the vehicle.
As troopers searched the car, another squad executed a second warrant at a Dacia Street residence in Dorchester, the release said.
The door was fortified with three locks including two deadbolts and was barricaded by furniture, but that wasn’t enough to keep out State Police and Boston police, according to prosecutors.
They made entry and spotted “numerous clear plastic bags containing suspected fentanyl floating in the bathroom toilet and additional bags were observed clogging the toilet drain,” the statement said. “State Police seized a total of 50 bags weighing one gram each of suspected fentanyl. Four larger bags were seized from a bedroom where” Saldana was located.
In addition, the release said, troopers seized $2,950 in cash, packaging material, a digital scale, and other items.
All three men now face charges of trafficking a Class A controlled substance, fentanyl, and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance law, Cruz’s office said.
