CAMDEN – A 20-year-old city man faces a minimum of five years in prison after admitting his role in a ring that sold crack cocaine and fentanyl, authorities said.

Davon Leak pleaded guilty in federal court Friday after admitting he sold drugs around the 1700 block of Filmore Street in Camden, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney District of New Jersey. Leak also admitted he prepared and packaged drugs for sale, authorities said.

The guilty plea is part of an ongoing case stemming from an FBI sting. Ten members of an alleged drug ring were arrested in June 2017 following an investigation that used wiretaps, surveillance, informants, cooperating witnesses, more than 20 controlled drug purchases, a GPS vehicle tracker and four court-authorized search warrants, authorities said.

Members of the alleged ring were accused of distributing crack cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin to users and resellers in and around Camden.

Leak was charged in the case in March, and on Friday pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base.

The charge carries a mandatory minimum term of five years in prison, a maximum of 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine. Sentencing is scheduled for March 11.

Five others arrested through the investigation previously pleaded guilty. Daron Suiter, 24, was sentenced to five years in prison on Aug. 9.  Karim Johnson, aka “Chicky,” was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Nov. 27. George Williams, 44, Latoya Whealton, aka “Toya,” 34; and Rajai Gaines, aka “Jigga,” 36, are awaiting sentencing.

Drug and firearm charges remain pending in a second indictment against five other defendants, including alleged leaders John Gunther, aka “Critty,” 35; and Taleaf Gunther, aka “Leafy” and “L,” 32; as well as alleged members William Roland, aka “Chill,” 36; Mark Campbell, aka “D” and “Diz,” 28; and Malcolm McCoy, 26.

The investigation led to the seizure of more than 300 grams of crack cocaine, quantities of fentanyl and heroin, a firearm and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
