Sentencing occurs in one Abbotsford drug case, charges stayed in another – Abbotsford News

An Abbotsford man who police say was connected to the Lower Mainland gang conflict at the time of his arrest in June 2017 has been convicted of two of the nine drug charges he faced.

Cody McClain, 22, was recently sentenced in Abbotsford provincial court to two years’ probation on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The other seven drug charges were stayed, as were two counts of breaching his bail conditions.

McClain and another man were arrested June 27, 2017 after the Abbotsford Police gang task force conducted a traffic stop.

Officers located $2,000 cash, a bag containing 70 pre-packaged pieces of fentanyl, other drugs including cocaine, and five cellphones.

McClain was subsequently charged with drug offences from June 6, 8, 12 and 28, 2017.

Meanwhile, another man who was also charged with drug offences around the same time has had his charges stayed.

Akshay Sachdeva, 19, who police also said was involved in the gang conflict, was charged with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking after a search warrant was executed at an Abbotsford home on June 7, 2017.

At the time, police said the search turned up several drugs, including fentanyl.

The matter was scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 27 of this year, but the charges were stayed Dec. 18 in Abbotsford provincial court.
