05 Apr Two pounds of fentanyl, marijuana, THC seized during alleged multi-state transport
AMARILLO – Over two pounds of fentanyl, eight pounds of marijuana, and approximately 20 pounds of THC products were discovered and seized after a traffic stop by a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper is Carson County on Monday.
The traffic stop took place at around 5:29 p.m. when a DPS Trooper pulled over a 2019 Kia Rio traveling east on I-40 near Conway for a traffic violation, said DPS officials.
Once a DPS canine arrived and alerted to possible narcotics on the vehicle, authorities reported that the Trooper discovered THC products, vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana, and a plastic-wrapped bundle of fentanyl inside the trunk.
DPS added that the drugs were allegedly being transported from Las Vegas, Nevada to Birmingham, Alabama.
The driver, identified by DPS as Wanda Smith, 26, and the passenger, identified as Lakayla Walker, 25, both from Fairfield, California, were arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
The two suspects were transported and booked into the Carson County Jail.
