ZANESVILLE – One of eight individuals involved in a major drug trafficking raid was sentenced to 15 years in prison last week.

Monte E. Smith, 40, of Newark pleaded no contest to one count of trafficking in methamphetamine with a major drug offender specification, a first-degree felony, trafficking in methamphetamine, as a third-degree felony, and possession of marijuana, a fifth-degree felony.

In addition to a 15-year prison sentence, Smith was ordered to pay $15,000 in fines and forfeit $9,000 seized during the drug raid.

In August, search warrants were issued at four locations in Zanesville, the 1200 block of Woodlawn Avenue, 39 Osage Street, the 1300 block of Jackson Street, 1100 block of Richey Road, Redline Performance and Motorcycle Sales at 430 Putnam Ave. Warrants were also executed in the 200 block of Boyleston Avenue and in the 1000 block of Stewart Street in Newark. 

Search warrants resulted in the confiscation of 1,900 grams of methamphetamine, 550 grams of cocaine, 45 grams of heroin, 45 grams of fentanyl, 1,300 grams of marijuana, hundreds of prescription medication, eight vehicles, 12 motorcycles, six firearms and about $60,000 in cash was seized.

Smith and seven other individuals were indicted as a result of the drug raids.

Kenley R. Body, 43, Stacey Stephens, 46, Kenley R. Body, Jr., 21, and James N. Norris, 36, all of Zanesville, pleaded not guilty and are awaiting jury trials.

James N. Norris, 36, of Zanesville, pleaded guilty on Dec. 28, to trafficking cocaine and permitting drug abuse. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 4.

Erick L. Crews, 40, of Reynoldsburg, pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for trial on Jan. 22.

Authorities are still searching for – Chad B. Bocook, 29, who is also wanted in connection with the raid.

Others sentenced in Muskingum County Common Pleas

Albert E. Robey, 58, Zanesville was sentenced to 36 months in prison and classified as a Tier III sex offender after pleading guilty to a prosecutor’s bill of information on one count of sexual battery

Andrew J. Brewer, 28, Duncan Falls, was sentenced to 24 months in prison for improper handling of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, stalking, and aggravated menacing

Austin J. Adams, 31, Zanesville, was placed on community control for three years and ordered to complete treatment at Muskingum Behavior Health after pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug abuse instruments

Todd M. Heger, 48, Roseville, was placed on community control for three years and must attend three drug and alcohol meetings each week after pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine

Latisha A. Edwards, 39, Nashport, was placed on community control for two years and must complete the Fayette Women’s Recovery program after pleading guilty to burglary and safe-cracking

Stephen F. Hoey, 43, address unknown, was sentenced to eight months in prison and post release control was teminated after pleading guilty to escape

Cecily M. Church, 29, Caldwell, was sentenced to 11 months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of tramadol, possession of fentanyl and possession of drug abuse instruments

Henry B. Meyer Jr., 57, Philo, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for violation of a protection order with prior offenses.

Justin A. Bell, 27, Zanesville, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for violating his community control after pleading guilty in August to breaking and entering, theft and possession of criminal tools

Jacob L. Twyman, 40, Zanesville was sentenced to 12 months in prison for violation of the conditions of his Dec. 3, Intervention in Lieu of Conviction.
