21 Dec Major Montgomery Co. Fentanyl Dealer Sentenced To 18-40 Years
NORRISTOWN, PA — A man arrested earlier this year during a bust of one of the region’s largest fentanyl trafficking organizations was sentenced Thursday to 18 to 40 years behind bars.
Miguel A. Figueroa, 34, of Reading, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and cocaine and related charges.
Authorities said that Figueroa and his partners had more than 6,600 doses of fentanyl when they were arrested. Fentanyl, described by authorities as 50 times more deadly than heroin, is often the culprit in overdose deaths. Drug users may believe they are ingesting heroin, but instead get something even more dangerous.
The group also sold crack cocaine, cocaine, and marijuana throughout Montgomery County, and Lehigh and Berks counties as well, officials said. Montgomery County District Attorney Steele said Figueroa was “dealing in death.”
In addition to the 6,600 doses of fentanyl – 198.6 grams – that was seized at the time of the arrest of Figueroa and his associates, authorities also seized seven handguns (one with the serial number filed off), more than $34,000 in cash, and numerous drug-packaging materials, officials said. A Pennsylvania State Trooper found the stash hidden in a secret compartment inside the suspects’ Honda Odyssey. It was not found on the first search of the vehicle by police.
All told, 25 suspected members of Figueroa’s ring were arrested, and 16 of them have pleaded guilty to drug-related charges thus far, authorities said.
