EDMONTON—Five people have been charged with a slew of offences after an investigation resulted in the seizure of crystal meth and approximately one ounce of fentanyl powder in Edmonton.
The investigation started after the Strathcona County Municipal Drug Unit received a drug complaint in early January. On Jan. 11, Strathcona County RCMP carried out a search warrant at a home in northwest Edmonton, with the assistance of Edmonton police and Fort Saskatchewan and Morinville RCMP.
Police seized drug paraphernalia, stolen credit cards and ID, cash, knives, a replica firearm, as well as methamphetamine, prescription pills and about one ounce of fentanyl powder.
The investigation determined that fentanyl and other drugs were being sold from the residence.
“Those that choose to traffic illicit drugs and participate in criminal activities are destroying lives and impact the safety and security of our communities,” Staff Sgt. Andrew Kyle of Strathcona County RCMP said. “Every seizure we make plays a significant part in making our streets safer.”
In total, 15 people were taken into custody and 67 arrest warrants were executed in the Edmonton, Sherwood Park and Calgary areas. The investigation resulted in five individuals being charged.
Sarah Colleen Adams, Michael Kenneth Geib, Joseph William Stalzer, Andrew Dwayne Werth and Rae-Lynn Valerie Tyrlik face a long list of charges, among them possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl and methamphetamine, possession of stolen property and credit cards, identity fraud and obstruction of a peace officer.
Adams, Werth and Tyrlik were released on a recognizance and Geib and Stalzer were remanded in custody. All five people are scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Wednesday.
