PHOENIX — The Drug Enforcement Administration says a Tucson woman has been indicted on federal charges and is in custody for distributing powerful fentanyl pills that caused overdoses suffered by three people, including a 19-year-old man who died.
DEA Phoenix Division Special Agent in Charge Doug Coleman announced Friday that 22-year-old Jocelyn Lopez-Sanchez was indicted May 1 by a federal grand jury.
Her indictment is part of a push by the DEA to prosecute street dealers whose distribution of drugs results in death.
Lopez-Sanchez was identified through the investigation carried out by the Tucson Police Department and the DEA. She was initially arrested on state charges in connection with the Nov. 1 overdoses at a Halloween party in Tucson.
The federal charge has a minimum sentence of 20 years imprisonment.
