2 charged in Mount Pocono heroin OD – News – poconorecord.com

Two men have been arrested in connection with a fatal heroin overdose that killed a Mount Pocono man Tuesday night in apartment 20 at Oakview Terrace, a condo development.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said Ronald Ahrens, 47, of Blakeslee, and Jonathan Nesbit, 27, of Pocono Summit, were charged with drug delivery resulting in death and related drug offenses. They were sent to Monroe County Prison under $500,000 bail by District Justice Phil Riley.

The charges involved the death of Jai Dee Ortiz, who was found lying on his back on the floor by a small staircase in the condo shortly after 11 p.m.

Police said evidence at the scene indicated the death was a probable heroin/fenatanyl overdose.

An investigation ensued, which identified a probable dealer who delivered heroin to Ortiz earlier in the day. As a result, Ronald Ahrens, 47, of Blakeslee, was arrested for drug dealing and related offenses.

Investigators later identified Ahrens’ source for the heroin/fentanyl that he delivered to Ortiz. The source, police said, was Jonathan Nesbit, 27, of Pocono Summit.

An autopsy did not determine the cause of death for Ortiz but a toxicology report from Ortiz’s blood sample showed that he had a high concentration of Fentanyl, Norfentanyl, 4 ANPP, and low levels of cocaine.

The substances found at the death scene were also sent out for laboratory analysis and identification and found to contain Fentanyl. The substances seized from Ahrens at the time of his arrest were also analyzed and identified as Fentanyl. The substances seized from Nesbit at the time of his arrest were also analyzed and confirmed to be Fentanyl and based on the evidence collected and police investigation, determined to be the same Fentanyl that killed Ortiz.
