MANKATO — A man reportedly overdosed on fentanyl that he sneaked into the Blue Earth County Jail after he was arrested for possessing multiple drugs.

Brady Alan Eytcheson, 22, of St. Peter, was charged Thursday in Blue Earth County District Court with felony sales and possession and gross misdemeanor introducing contraband into jail. The sales charge stems from the large quantity of drugs.

Eytcheson was wanted on a probation violation warrant on a prior drug conviction and was stopped in a vehicle on North Riverfront Drive Tuesday, according to court documents.

Inside a backpack, police allegedly found 31 grams of methamphetamine, nearly 5 grams of heroin and nearly $1,300.

Eytcheson was found “blue and unresponsive” in his jail cell the next morning, the court complaint said. He was breathing again as he was taken to the hospital.

A small paper pouch and a small amount of a yellow powder were then reportedly found in Eytcheson’s jail cell.

The Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force tested the powder and found it was fentanyl — a synthetic opioid that is 80 to 100 times stronger than morphine.

Eytcheson, who has been released from the hospital, made a first court appearance on Thursday.
