A city man will serve up to a decade in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday to a slew of drug charges.

BROCKTON — A city man will serve up to a decade in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday to a slew of drug charges.

Jesus Ayala, 49, pleaded guilty in Brockton Superior Court to charges of illegal possession with intent to distribute heroin, trafficking cocaine, illegal possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and illegal possession of naloxone (also known as Narcan, an overdose-reversing drug).

Judge Brian Davis sentenced Ayala to serve 8 to 10 years in state prison.

During March last year, state police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County district attorney’s office conducted an investigation into the distribution of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine occurring within Brockton.

Ayala was identified by investigators as a distributor of narcotics to customers. Police learned he was storing the drugs at his apartment at the Hamilton Oaks complex, at 50 Oak Street Extension.

Police sought and obtained a search warrant for the residence, which was executed early in the morning on March 30, 2018 by state police and Brockton police detectives. Ayala was attempting to flush narcotics down the toilet when detectives entered the apartment.

After Ayala was arrested, troopers searched the apartment and located 50 grams of fentanyl, 6 grams of heroin, 36 grams of cocaine, naloxone strips, $3,900 in cash, packaging materials, a face mask, a grinder, financial ledgers and numerous cell phones.

In district court, Ayala was also initially charged with a drug violation in a school zone because the Hamilton Oaks apartment complex is located two miles west of the North Junior High School and the Oscar Raymond K-8 School.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joseph Janezic.

The investigation was conducted by state police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County district attorney’s office, the Mass. State Police Gang Unit, Mass. State Police Commonwealth Intrastate Narcotics Reduction Enforcement Team and Brockton police.
