CHESHIRE — A local man was sentenced to two and a half years in federal prison Friday for supplying a mixture of heroin and fentanyl to a Southington woman who fatally overdosed.

Thomas Halleran, 37, will also serve six years of supervised released following his sentence. He was charged in August 2017 and pleaded guilty in June 2018 to one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin and/or fentanyl.

On July 25, 2017, police and emergency personnel responded to a Southington residence where they found an unresponsive 31-year-old woman, according to a U.S. Department of Justice statement. The woman was pronounced dead, and authorities seized five folds of suspected heroin and fentanyl, two empty folds, drug paraphernalia and the woman’s cell phone.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the woman’s death was caused by a combination of fentanyl, acetyl fentanyl, methadone, alprazolam and alcohol.

Police determined Halleran had supplied a mixture of heroin and fentanyl to the woman for about six weeks, and delivered heroin and fentanyl to the woman at her residence on the night of July 24.
