A six-month investigation has led to “significant” drug busts at two Burnaby condo buildings.

Burnaby RCMP’s drug section began an investigation in January into a mid-level drug ring operating out of a pair of condo buildings in the Metrotown and Brent Town Centre areas, according to an RCMP press release.

“As the investigators continued gathering intelligence over the following months it became apparent that this was a drug operation that was not just active in Burnaby but also in other communities in the Lower Mainland,” stated the release.

Police moved in on May 30, executing search warrants at the two buildings and seizing two kilograms of prepackaged, street-ready drugs, bulk fentanyl and cocaine, $50,000 in cash, valuables such as watches and jewelry and two vehicles.

Two men were arrested, but charges have yet to be laid, according to police.

“On a daily basis we are seeing the devastating effect that drugs such as fentanyl are having on our streets, and this organization was believed to be supplying street-level drugs not just in Burnaby but to other communities across the Lower Mainland too,” Insp. Matt Toews said in the release. “This seizure came about after excellent work by our drug section, who continue to proactively work to disrupt drug lines in our city.”
