CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Police arrested a man and woman who they said had enough fentanyl to kill 9,850 people.

Cameron Schaarschmidt, 22, and Jessie Noble, 26, were found with 19.7 grams of the deadly opioid Thursday morning after officers responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Kohl’s on Pine Island Road in Cape Coral.

The duo’s arrest comes after at least nine people have died from fentanyl this year in the city of Cape Coral.

A witness told police that Schaarschmidt had taken a spoon from the trunk of the car at one point and returned to the front passenger seat. When an arriving officer approached the vehicle, police said Noble backed the car up and drove through the parking lot before stopping at the main driveway entrance to the shopping plaza.

The officer found a spoon on the center console full of a white powder substance, which was later determined to be fentanyl.

During a search, the officer found one Ziploc bag containing cocaine, one bag containing meth, and three bags containing 19.7 grams of fentanyl. The officer also found a handgun near the driver seat.

Police said Noble was also under the influence of alcohol during the arrest.

Noble faces charges for DUI, trafficking fentanyl, possession of a gun by a convicted felon, and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Schaarschmidt faces charges for trafficking fentanyl, possession of cocaine, possession of meth, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both Schaarschmidt and Noble are in Lee County Jail.
