A Jan. 5 raid of an Elyria house resulted in the arrest of the 49-year-old homeowner on drug charges.

The raid took place about 7 a.m. in the 300 block of Furnace Street and was the result of an ongoing drug investigation of David P. Jones, according to a news release.

A search of the residence turned up a loaded handgun, heroin, fentanyl, oxycodone pills, methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia, the release said.

Subsequently, Jones was charged with having weapons under disability, possessing criminal tools, drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, possession of drugs, trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in methamphetamines, trafficking heroin, possession of heroin, possession of fentanyl and possession of oxycodone, according to the release.

This was not Jones’ first brush with the law, as the release said he previously was convicted of multiple drug charges in connection to a 2013 arrest.

The release commends the detectives for their work on the case apprehending an individual alleged to have continued his drug business after a brief stint in prison.

Jones had used his house in a residential neighborhood to continue the practice, according to the release.

“Hopefully, this will serve as notice that the Elyria police will aggressively pursue those responsible for the distribution and sale of narcotics in our community,” the release said. “The Elyria Police Department will also research and pursue other avenues as it relates to the prosecution of convicted drug traffickers.”

Jones is in the Lorain County Jail without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 7 in Elyria Municipal Court.
