Fall River man ordered held on Dartmouth drug charges – News – southcoasttoday.com

NEW BEDFORD — A Fall River man charged by Dartmouth police with trafficking fentanyl was ordered held without bail Monday for a dangerousness hearing, according to court records.

Justin D. Griffey, 35, of 193 Albion St., Apartment 1, was ordered held for a pre-trial detention hearing May 31 in New Bedford District Court, records indicate. Judge David P. Sorrenti granted Bristol County prosecutors’ request Monday for the dangerousness hearing.

Griffey was arraigned Monday on charges of trafficking fentanyl 36 grams or more; possession of cocaine with intent to distribute; operating a motor vehicle after suspension of license; operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration; and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, court records say.

Dartmouth Detective Keith R. DaCosta said he stopped Griffey’s Toyota Corolla about 4:40 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of State Road for having a revoked registration, court records say. The detective was also aware that Griffey had a suspended license.

Griffey was removed from the car and placed under arrest for operating with a suspended license, court records say.

Police did a search of his property and found four clear plastic bags containing about 79 grams of fentanyl; three clear plastic bags containing approximately 2.5 grams of cocaine; and a clear plastic bag containing $680 in cash, according to court records. The cash was found in his boots.

Police further searched his car and seized two bottles of Inositol powder; two digital scales; and $42 in cash for a total of $722 in cash, court records say.

The $722 in cash was seized as suspected drug proceeds and will be turned over to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office for forfeiture proceedings, according to court records.
