Florida sheriff’s office seizes enough fentanyl ‘to kill every single resident of Brevard County’ – News – The Florida Times-Union

After a monthslong, multi-agency drug investigation, police in Brevard County arrested 100 people connected to a criminal organization responsible for distributing heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine.

“The investigation was aimed at disrupting the sources of dangerous opiate drugs that are critically impacting our county and nation,” Sheriff Wayne Ivey wrote in a Facebook post to the Brevard County community.

Throughout the course of the investigation, the Special Investigations Unit, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration, seized more than 500,000 lethal doses of fentanyl — enough to “kill every single resident of Brevard County” as well as 75 firearms and more than $81,000 worth of meth, the sheriff’s office said.

Ivey said that there have been 650 opiate-related overdose deaths in Brevard County in the past 10 years. Many of which are directly related to fentanyl, an opioid that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine and 30 to 50 times more potent than heroin, he wrote on Facebook.

The 100 suspects arrested Wednesday were repeat offenders, and they face an array of conspiracy, trafficking and racketeering-related charges. See more details into their arrests in the Facebook post below.
