Hyannis man denies fentanyl trafficking charge – News – capecodtimes.com

BARNSTABLE — A Hyannis man pleaded not guilty Monday in Barnstable District Court to charges of fentanyl trafficking after a Yarmouth police officer conducting a traffic stop found more than 25 grams of the drug in his possession, according to police and court documents.

Michael Dietrick, 29, also was charged with possession of amphetamines, documents show. He was ordered held on $5,000 bail.

The Yarmouth officer was on patrol on Long Pond Drive at around 11 a.m. Monday when he clocked a vehicle traveling 47 mph in a 25 mph zone and saw the car cross over the yellow centerline, according to an arraignment report written by the officer.

When the officer tried to pull the car over, the vehicle slowed but continued for a brief period before stopping. The driver, whom the officer recognized as Dietrick, also made a series of movements consistent with an attempt to conceal something, the report says.

When officers directed Dietrick to step out of the car, a folded store receipt containing drugs that Dietrick later said were fentanyl fell out of his lap, according to the report. Officers also found a chewing gum tin in Dietrick’s jacket pocket that contained several knotted bags of a white substance that Dietrick said was also fentanyl, along with several orange pills, the report says. Officers also found $953 cash in Dietrick’s possession, according to the report.

Dietrick is due back in court Jan. 25 for a pretrial hearing.
