Hyannis man faces drug, gun charges – News – capecodtimes.com

BARNSTABLE — A Hyannis man pleaded not guilty Friday in Barnstable District Court to charges he sold ammunition to an alleged heroin dealer in exchange for drugs and money, according to police and court documents.

Leslie Ostapchuk, 28, was released on $500 bail on the conditions he forfeit all firearms and not possess any firearms, according to court documents. Ostapchuk is charged with conspiracy to violate the drug law and possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card, documents show.

In October, Barnstable detectives and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Cape Cod Task Force were involved in a heroin and fentanyl investigation involving Jonathan Cotell, 27, of Hyannis, who allegedly was bringing drugs to the Cape from Lawrence, according to police reports.

Police obtained a search warrant for Cotell’s phone Dec. 4 and found text messages between Cotell and Ostapchuk to buy .45-caliber ammunition in exchange for money and a small amount of heroin and fentanyl, reports state.

Cotell was arrested on trafficking charges in early December after a traffic stop, according to a previous statement from the Police Department. Ostapchuk was arrested on a warrant, according to court documents.

Ostapchuk has 17 previous arraignments on his record, including for drug and firearm charges, according to police reports.

He is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing Jan. 31.
