“I don’t even mess with fentanyl,’ says repeat New Bedford drug offender – News – southcoasttoday.com

NEW BEDFORD — Davaun Oswald swore to New Bedford narcotics detectives he did not have any fentanyl in his apartment, according to court documents.

He said several times he did not have any.

“No, the only thing I have is a little bit of weed,” the 22-year-old man told members of the New Bedford Police Department’s Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau prior to the execution of a search warrant.

“I don’t even mess with fentanyl,” he said, according to documents in New Bedford District Court. “Fentanyl, I don’t even sell fentanyl. I just sell weed.”

But then a detective saw the suspect apparently trying to stuff something down the rear of his pants, checked and found a bag containing 17.2 grams of fentanyl, court records indicate.

Turns out Oswald was also not being truthful when he said the only thing he had in his apartment was “a little bit of weed.” Narcotics detectives found 20 plastic bags containing 477.5 grams of marijuana, court records say. They also found packaging materials, digital scales and $1,115 in cash.

Oswald, who is suspected of running a fentanyl delivery service out of his home, 32 Nye St., Apartment 1 North, is charged with trafficking in fentanyl more than 10 grams, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of marijuana, subsequent offense, according to court records. Police say he was convicted of distribution of a Class D substance on Feb. 10, 2016.

He was arraigned Friday in New Bedford District Court and ordered held without bail for a dangerousness hearing on Feb. 8, court records say. Judge Douglas J. Darnbrough granted prosecutors’ request for a detention hearing.
