26 Feb Jefferson County man sentenced to 15 years for fentanyl distribution | West Virginia
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Harpers Ferry, W.Va., man was sentenced Monday by Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh to 15 years in prison stemming from charges that he distributed fentanyl that resulted in the December 2016 death of another man, according to court records and U.S. Attorney Bill Powell.
Corey Robert Clark Ford, 29, pleaded guilty in October as part of a plea agreement to one count of aiding and abetting possession with intent to distribute fentanyl in connection with the death of Eric Zombro, court records said.
Three other drug-related charges were dismissed as part of the agreement.
Zombro, 36, also of Harpers Ferry, died Dec. 23, 2016, according to his obituary and the plea agreement.
“The sentence imposed upon Mr. Ford sends a clear message that the distribution of fentanyl, in even a small amount, can have catastrophic consequences,” Powell said in a news release. “Mr. Ford’s distribution contributed to the death of one of our citizens. He will now spend the next 15 years of his life in prison.
“Fentanyl kills. Thanks to the hard work of our prosecution and our law-enforcement teams, there is one less fentanyl dealer in our community.”
In addition to admitting to distributing fentanyl in Jefferson County that resulted in Zombro’s death, Ford also admitted to possession of fentanyl in January 2017 in which he aided and abetted the possession with intent to distribute about 3.5 grams of fentanyl and about 0.28 grams of buprenorphine.
Ford is to be placed on supervised release for three years after completing the prison sentence.
