The OPP in Huron County have put a dent in the local supply of fentanyl following a traffic stop in Exeter.

An officer with the Huron-Perth OPP Community Street Crimes Unit conducted a traffic stop of a car on Huron Street West in Exeter on Sunday, June 2nd.

The officer noted some discrepancies in the name and date of birth of the driver, and he was placed under arrest for obstructing a peace officer.

A search of the driver and vehicle produced a large quantity of suspected purple fentanyl.    The estimated street value of the seized fentanyl is nearly $21,000.    Officers also located and seized over $20,000 in Canadian currency.

Police determined the suspect held a suspended driver’s licence and was also wanted on outstanding offences by Waterloo Regional Police Service.

Three days later, the OPP executed a search warrant at a residence on Mill Street in the Municipality of South Huron.   They seized a quantity of a Schedule I Substance, trace amounts of fentanyl, a prohibited push-dagger style knife, digital scale and drug packaging materials.

A total of twelve charges were laid against 38-year-old Phillip Walsh of South Huron.   Those charges include Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime, and Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon.

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for Friday in Goderich court.
