Man admits dealing deadly dose to Kingston woman – News

A Kingston man has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of drug delivery resulting in the death of a woman who overdosed on the powerful opioid fentanyl.

Michael F. Bogdon, 26, faces a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison and a maximum penalty of life after pleading guilty to the charge last week, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Bogdon was accused of providing a deadly dose of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid drug that is more powerful than heroin, to 18-year-old Morghan Michalek, who died at her home in Kingston on Dec. 13, 2017.

Police arrested Bogdon on state drug-trafficking charges in Harveys Lake the next day, finding him in possession of 50 bags of heroin, $1,015 in cash, a scale, empty dime bags and a bag of rubber bands, according to the charges. Bogdon is set to stand trial in September on state drug-trafficking charges stemming from his arrest.

In February 2018, a federal grand jury indicted Bogdon on charges of drug delivery resulting in death and possessing fentanyl with the intent to deliver. Bodgon reached a plea agreement in April, and prosecutors agreed not to pursue the fentanyl possession charge against him.

The plea agreement says the prosecution reserves the right to recommend a sentence up to life in prison on the delivery charge. Bogdon is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 6.

Michalek died a little more than a year after her brother, Casey Michalek, 21, was killed when a car he was riding in crashed in Edwardsville. She spoke at the sentencing hearing for the driver, Audrey Cera Sutton, of Courtdale, who police say had a blood-alcohol level of .197 after the crash, as well as amphetamines, marijuana and Oxycodone in her system.

“I’m never going to be able to hear that one-in-a-million laugh again,” Michalek told the judge in October 2017, two months before her death. “There is no justification for it. There is no fixing it or making it better.”

Sutton, now 24, is serving three to six years at State Correctional Institution Cambridge Springs.
