Man busted with 3,000 fentanyl pills after getting pulled over in Tempe, troopers say

TEMPE, Ariz. – A 31-year-old man was arrested for possession and intent to sell narcotics after he was pulled over and allowed a DPS trooper to search his car, court documents say. Inside the car, the trooper found 3,000 fentanyl pills. 

Shane Stewart was pulled over for extensive window tint and the trooper noted he seemed very nervous during the stop, according to court documents. After running Stewart’s license, the trooper found Stewart had a warrant out of Wilcox and a suspended license. 

The trooper asked if he could search the vehicle and Stewart signed a consent to search form. Under the passenger seat, the trooper found a large plastic bag with small plastic bags inside containing 3,000 fentanyl pills in total, court docs say. 

When the trooper asked what they were, Smith responded “You know what they are,” and didn’t want to respond to any more questions, according to court documents.

Smith is charged with drug-related felonies.
