Man charged with murder after fentanyl overdose death – News – The Dispatch

A Davidson County man was charged with second degree murder Tuesday after Lexington police say he sold heroin laced with fentanyl to a man who later overdosed and died.

Daniel Allen English, 27, of 1520 Hoover Road, was charged with second degree murder by distributing drugs, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a schedule II controlled substance and selling or delivering a schedule II controlled substance.

According to a press release from the Lexington Police Department, on March 4, officers responded to the Walmart on Lowe’s Boulevard where they found a 27-year-old man unconscious in his vehicle. First responders attempted to resuscitate the victim before he was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation was launched and it was determined that the victim overdosed on fentanyl, “a common, yet extremely dangerous ingredient in heroin,” according to Lexington police. The investigation further revealed that the victim bought the heroin from English, authorities say.

English is being held in the Davidson County Detention Center with no bond. He is scheduled to appear in court June 25.
