Man charged with selling fentanyl in Southington

SOUTHINGTON  — A local man faces charges after police said they conducted four controlled purchases of fentanyl.

Michael Barracliff, 53, of 99 Dawn Lane, was charged Wednesday with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and four counts each of sale of narcotics and illegal possession of narcotics. He was cited for possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana.

The investigation started when police received information that a suspect was selling narcotics, including fentanyl, police spokesman Lt. Stephen Elliott said. Police conducted four controlled purchases of fentanyl from Barracliff and obtained  arrest warrants.

On Wednesday around 2:30 p.m. police saw Barracliff driving a moped on North Main Street and took him into custody. He was found with 35 wax folds containing suspected fentanyl and a small amount of marijuana, Elliott said.

Barracliff was arraigned in Bristol Superior Court on Thursday. The judge set bond at $300,000 and continued the case to July 8.
