18 Feb Man claimed to be ‘resting’ in car parked on Alton sidewalk — Fentanyl, gun, marijuana found, charges say
ALTON — An area man was arrested Feb. 9 after he was found allegedly in possession of Fentanyl and more than $11,000 cash in a car apparently parked on an Alton sidewalk.
Tanner S.L. Unterbrink, 23, of Springfield, Missouri, is charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
A court document states he was arrested Feb. 9 after the car he was in was sitting on a sidewalk in the 700 block of Fountain Street.
A report claims Unterbrink told the officer he was “resting,” but a check showed that he was wanted on three warrants.
The officer searched the car and found a cut soda can containing Fentanyl, seven used and uncapped hypodermic needles, a metal spoon containing suspected Fentanyl, 16 rounds of .38-caliber ammunition, about two grams of marijuana, a “one hitter” pipe, a folded $10 bill containing a white substance, $11,572 in cash and Suboxone, a medication used to block the effects of opioids.
“Unterbrink provided several stories, which he often drastically changed, explaining why he was in possession of such a large amount of currency,” the court document states.
The information is included in a request to take possession of the cash under a law that allows authorities to obtain proceeds believed used in the drug trade.
The document claims Unterbrink has a history of drug arrests, that he could not explain how he obtained the money, that he gave suspicious statements and the he has no visible means of support.
