A drug dealer admitted Wednesday to selling fentanyl-laced heroin that led to the death of an Irondequoit man last year, according to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.

Darnell Wallace Jr., 24, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and six counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in the overdose death of Nathan Chesterton on Aug. 10, 2018, prosecutors said.

The Monroe County Heroin Task Force of the Greater Rochester Area Narcotics Team worked with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to charge Wallace.

Wallace will serve five to 15 years for the manslaughter charge in state prison and another eight years for the drug-selling charges. The sentences will run concurrently, prosecutors said.

He will be sentenced on Feb. 6 by state Supreme Court Justice Alex R. Renzi.

District Attorney Sandra Doorley said her office is working tirelessly to charge drug dealers responsible for overdose deaths.

“Drug dealers can no longer plead ignorance because we have said it over and over again, if you sell an illegal drug that results in a fatal overdose, we will charge you with a homicide,” Doorley said in a release. “Darnell Wallace Jr. sold heroin laced with fentanyl to Nathan Chesterton, knowing that this is a deadly combination.”

Assistant District Attorney Robin Catalano prosecuted the case.

“This investigation not only brought justice to Nathan Chesterton’s friends and family, but it prevents Darnell Wallace Jr. from continuing to sell these life-threatening narcotics to the members of our community,” Catalano said.
