A Seacoast man was sentenced to 12 years in prison Monday for selling a fatal dose of drugs to a teenager.Benjamin Mackenzie, 22, was found guilty of selling a lethal dose of fentanyl to Bryanna Frechette, 19, in 2016. The victim’s family described the pain of their loss during Monday’s sentencing hearing.”Our lives seem to stand still. We’re stuck in time,” said the victim’s mother, Melinda Frechette. “Bryanna was our only child. She was our life.”Prosecutors asked for a minimum sentence of 12 years in prison, saying a strong message needed to be sent.”There is simply no amount of years that are going to bring their daughter back,” Assistant Strafford County Attorney Timothy Sullivan said. “At the end of the hearing, they’re going to be gone.”Defense lawyers told the court Mackenzie was caught in the throes of addiction himself, and his family described him as a good person with a horrible sickness.”How Ben was living was insane,” said his father, George Mackenzie. “What Ben was doing was total insanity, foolish behavior. This is not who Ben is when he is sober. This is a tragic accident.”Judge Steven Houran said actions have consequences as he sentenced Benjamin Mackenzie to 12 years in prison. He has a chance to have two years taken off his sentence if he completes drug and alcohol counseling.
