Marin Patenaude performed in Williams Lake last weekend – Williams Lake Tribune

The Cariboo’s own Marin Patenaude performed at the Central Cariboo Arts Centre Friday, April 12 in front of a room full of fans.

She shared some new songs that will be on her next CD, and a few from her first one.

One of her new songs bemoans the devastating impacts of fentanyl.

It was inspired by working at a bar in the Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and hearing heart-wrenching stories from workers grappling with overdoses.

No one is immune, the song suggested.

Another tune took listeners to her cabin in Horsefly and the experience of building it.

And when she sang about her dog, who came from a shelter, you could not help but smile.

Patenaude shared the stage with Ora Cogan and her band. Williams Lake was the first stop on a tour taking them all the way to Haida Gwaii.

Cogan invited Patenaude up for a duet which sent chills up the spine as the harmony was beyond beautiful.

Patenaude divides her time between Vancouver and Horsefly, where her father and sister Pharis Romero along with her family also live.

After Haida Gwaii she is off to Europe to tour further and then will return to Horsefly after that to begin working solidly on her role as artistic director of Arts on the Fly, which takes place on July 12 and 13.
