Mass. man busted in Ogunquit with 12 grams of fentanyl

OGUNQUIT, Maine — A convicted felon from Massachusetts was arrested Tuesday in Ogunquit after troopers seized drugs, cash and a handgun from his vehicle.

Maine State Police said a vehicle driven by Sean Anderson of Lynn, Massachusetts, was pulled over along the Maine Turnpike in Ogunquit at about 9 p.m. for several violations, which were not detailed.

A search of the vehicle turned up 12 grams of fentanyl, more than $10,000 in cash and a loaded 9 mm handgun.

The 38-year-old was on probation in Massachusetts for an armed robbery and home invasion, and is prohibited from possession firearms, police said.

Anderson was arrested and charged with aggravated drug trafficking and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. An additional charge of criminal speed was requested to be appended, police said.

He was taken to York County Jail where bail was set at $15,000.

The trooper who conducted the traffic stop is part of Maine State Police’s Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (PACE) Team. 

According to Oxford Treatment Center, the lethal dose for fentanyl is generally stated to be 2 milligrams, meaning the amount seized in this bust equates to about 12,000 fatal doses. The OTC says this estimate takes into consideration the person using the drug has not developed a significant tolerance.
