MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat Police have charged two individuals with possession for the purpose of trafficking heroin and fentanyl.

The charges were laid following a traffic stop on Dec 21 at 1:29am.

According to police, the priority street crimes unit received source information about a male planning to purchase a load of drugs.

Police say they followed him to Calgary, where he allegedly met with a known man and bought 14.5 grams of a heroin fentanyl mixture.

Police then followed him back to Medicine Hat, and conducted a traffic stop.

The man and a women were arrested after police allegedly discovered $4200 worth of heroin and fentanyl, as well as a small amount of crack cocaine.

The man has also been charged with resisting arrest and obstruction after allegedly attempting to swallow two packets of heroine.

Richard Petryshyn, 58, faces seven charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking heroin, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, possession of heroin, possession of fentanyl, possession of cocaine, obstruction and resisting arrest.

Brooklyn Carriere, 24, faces five charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking heroin, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, possession of heroin, possession of fentanyl and possession of cocaine.

Both individuals have appeared in court, and Carriere has been released on $3000 no cash recognizance.

Petryshyn remains in custody.

The two are set to appear in court again on January 10.
