Norfolk man pleads guilty to selling drugs to undercover officer

NORFOLK, Va. — A man pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute heroin on Thursday, after he was arrested for selling heroin mixed with fentanyl to an undercover police officer at a Norfolk 7-Eleven.

According to prosecutors, 32-year-old Barry Jamel Alexander tried using a cousin as a middle-man when selling the illegal drugs to the undercover, but store surveillance video showed Alexander handing his cousin the drugs, and later the cousin giving him the drug money.

Prosecutors said Alexander previously sold heroin mixed with fentanyl to a person who overdosed and had to be revived with Narcan. At the time he sold drugs to the undercover officer, Alexander had been aware of the overdose incident.

Alexander pleaded guilty to conspiracy, distribution, and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.

Alexander could face up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced on June 7.
