Two Northshire residents were arrested Sunday after police reported finding heroin and fentanyl in the car during a traffic stop in Bennington.

Derek Bushee, of Arlington, and Joshua Bushee, of Sunderland, both 37 years old, are facing state charges of trafficking fentanyl and possessing at least 200 milligrams of heroin. Trafficking fentanyl is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and/or a maximum $1 million fine.

Vermont State Police, in a news release, said troopers stopped their vehicle for speeding on Route 7 in Bennington. During the interaction “Troopers observed indicators of criminal activity, which lead to them gaining consent to search the vehicle,” according to the news release.

During the search of the vehicle Troopers located approximately 1.3 grams of Fentanyl, according to the state police press release.

The men pleaded not guilty to the charges Monday, Bennington County court records show.

According to sworn statements by Vermont State Police, troopers found 70 glassine bags of illegal drugs inside the men’s car after they were stopped for speeding along state Route 7 in Bennington on Sunday evening. Troopers said they also found a receipt indicating the men had just traveled from Troy, N.Y.

Police would like anyone who recognizes the person in the photos to call Officer Ryan Matteson of the Manchester Police Department at 802-362-2121, or submit information through the department’s Facebook page.
