Officials: RI man gets 5 years for bringing $34K of Fentanyl, infant to Ledyard drug deal – News – The Bulletin

HARTFORD – A Rhode Island man was sentenced Monday to 5 years in prison for driving with a suspended license to a drug deal in 2017, while in possession of more than $30,000 of heroin and an infant in the vehicle, according to a press release from the office of John H. Durham, US Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Juan Hazard, 42, of Cranston, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford to 60 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release for trafficking Fentanyl.

Hazard pleaded guilty on September 17, 2018, to possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of Fentanyl.

According to court documents and statements made in court, in April 2017, Hazard set up a drug deal with a buyer in Ledyard.

On April 26, officials said Hazard was pulled over in Ledyard and was subsequently arrested after police found a wooden box with three shrink-wrapped packages, containing approximately 338 grams of Fentanyl, in the back of his car.

The estimated street value of the drugs seized was $34,000, according to the Ledyard Police Department.

Officials said Hazard’s infant was in the car’s back seat during the stop.

Hazard has been detained since his federal arrest on May 4, 2018.

This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Waterford, Ledyard, Town of Groton and City of Groton Police Departments.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patricia Stolfi Collins.
