INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One of two accused drug dealers told authorities he made his connections through the underground online marketplace known as the dark web, according to his affidavit.

Travis Maurice Remling, 33, was charged Wednesday with trafficking, sale and conspiracy to sell fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office worked on the case with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Christopher Romance Stokes, 31, of the 800 block of Jamaica Avenue, Sebastian, was charged Wednesday with sale and possession of fentanyl, sale and possession of cocaine and possession of ecstasy.

The investigators went to homes in the 2300 block of 84th Court, which is Remling’s home, and the 8400 block of 104th Court with search warrants.

According to the affidavit, Remling said he orders his drugs through the dark web, which is an encrypted network of web sites not accessible through traditional search engines.

Fentanyl is a prescription painkiller with a high possibility of addiction for its users.

Remling was being held at the Indian River County Jail without bail Thursday. A previous bail he had posted this month for charges of driving under the influence and some drug offenses was revoked.

Stokes was being held in lieu of $337,000 bail at the jail Thursday.
