Police: Speeding stop leads to fentanyl arrest in Brockton – News – The Enterprise, Brockton, MA

Brockton police said a traffic stop for speeding led to an arrest for fentanyl possession in the city.

BROCKTON – A 21-year-old Brockton man was pulled over for speeding in the city, driving a van with out of state license plates, according to police.

But the traffic stop led to more than a speeding ticket, Brockton police said.

Jonathan A. Pires, 21, was arrested and charged with drug possession Class A at 6:51 p.m. on Monday at 317 Hovendon Ave. Brockton police said he was in possession of fentanyl.

“Brockton detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop after observing a Dodge Van with out of state plates speeding on Hovendon Avenue,” said Brockton police, in a brief summary of the arrest. “Once police approached the driver of the van, another officer saw a passenger throw something in the back. Police told the occupants to exit the van so they could check the vehicle and the individuals.”

Brockton police said officers searched the car and the occupants of the car, turning up two grams of fentanyl, before arresting Pires.

The 21-year-old Brockton man was arraigned at Brockton District Court by Judge Paula Clifford on Tuesday and was allowed to be released on $200 bail, which he posted at the time of his arrest.

Pires is due back in court on May 28 for a pretrial hearing.

In other recent Brockton police news, a 29-year-old Brockton man was arrested after police believed he fit the description of a suspect wanted for questioning in a shoplifting case that took place hours earlier on Wednesday. The alleged suspect identified himself as Christopher Lordan, Brockton police said.

But when a police officer told Lordan he was under arrest, due to an active warrant, he took off running, according to Brockton police.

“The 29-year-old put himself and others in danger as he ran through light traffic on Warren Avenue,” said Brockton police, in a short statement about the arrest.

Lordan, however, didn’t get too far, and was quickly detained, police said. On top of being arrested on a warrant, Lordan was charged with disorderly conduct, according to Brockton police.
