13 Jun Possible fentanyl exposure leaves HCSO deputies hospitalized after finding drugs, money
Two Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies were hospitalized for possible fentanyl exposure Wednesday night after finding drugs and money inside a hotel room near George Bush Intercontinental Airport, according to authorities.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that carries an increased risk of overdose or death. The deputies were believed to be in stable condition late Wednesday, but their current condition is unknown.
The drugs have not been identified.
Deputies said a cleaning crew first alerted them to “all types of illegal drugs in the open” in a hotel room at the Extended Stay America in the 1500 block of Sam Houston Parkway. They also found possible counterfeit money and printing devices, deputies said.

Deputies responded to the room around 9 p.m. and collected the possible drugs. They brought it down to their patrol vehicle when they became light-headed and overheated, deputies said.
After deputies administered the opioid antidote Narcan to each other, they called paramedics and were taken to an area hospital.
Meanwhile, a hazmat crew tested the air quality of the room to make sure it was safe, deputies said. Hazmat also checked the patrol vehicle where deputies first took the drugs.
Deputies said no other guests in the hotel would be impacted. It’s unclear whether anyone was charged overnight.
