RCMP seize fentanyl, methamphetamine and other drugs in two Duncan raids

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP seized fentanyl, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs in two drug investigations in Duncan.

In the first case, police arrested a 29-year-old woman for drug dealing in a crime “hot spot” Friday morning.

Mounties were patrolling around a business in the 300-block of the Trans-Canada Highway, which has received increased police attention because it’s been identified as a problem crime area, said Staff Sgt. Kurt Bosnell, who heads the detachment’s plainclothes unit.

Officers arrested the woman in a parking lot and searched the vehicle, where they found fentanyl and methamphetamine that was packaged for re-sale. Police did not release the quantity of drugs seized.

The woman was arrested and could face drug-related charges including possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine. “The area is known to be frequented by drug users and traffickers and has become a common location to purchase and consume drugs,” Bosnell said. “This was a proactive initiative by uniform members that resulted in a significant amount of illicit drugs [being] taken off the streets.”

The arrest comes a day after a separate drug investigation by North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP led to a raid on a home on Queens Road.

On Thursday afternoon, the detachment’s street crimes unit searched a home on Queens Road, where officers believed drug trafficking was taking place.

Two men and a woman were arrested at the home. Officers seized several items from the home, including large quantities of suspected heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, cash and instruments used to traffic drugs. Mounties also recovered stolen property including bikes and chainsaws and are in the process of locating the rightful owners.

Chris James Strong, 35, and Miranda Mary Motherwell, 29, are charged with possession of cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking. They could face additional charges as the investigation continues.
