17 May Repeat drug offender from New Bedford charged with trafficking – News – southcoasttoday.com
NEW BEDFORD — A repeat drug offender was ordered held without bail Thursday for a dangerousness hearing after police seized almost 11 grams of fentanyl in a raid.
Edwin M. Collazo, 23, of 177 Arnold St., Apartment 2, New Bedford, is charged with trafficking fentanyl more than 10 grams, possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance, subsequent offense; and possession of Xanax, according to records in New Bedford District Court.
Collazo, suspected of running a fentanyl delivery service, was the target of a search warrant that was executed about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at his residence, court records indicate. Police seized about 10.8 grams of fentanyl, four tabs of Xanax, $618 in cash, digital scales, cut corner bags, cutting agents and other packaging materials in the raid.
Collazo was found guilty on Aug. 25, 2015, of possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance, court records say.
Judge Paul G. Pino granted Bristol County prosecutors’ request to hold Collazo without bail for a dangerousness hearing on May 21 in New Bedford District Court, records say.
Members of the New Bedford Police Department’s narcotics unit, the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau, had a search warrant in hand when they observed Collazo in a vehicle and involved in a suspected drug deal about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at Arnold and Chancery streets, court documents say.
The detectives saw Collazo pull out a plastic bag containing a brown substance and twist the top of the bag during the suspected drug deal, records say.
Detectives removed Collazo from the vehicle and a plastic bag of fentanyl containing 10 grams fell out of his hand and on to the floor board of the vehicle, records say. Police retrieved 10 grams of fentanyl and four tabs of Xanax that were on the floorboard on the passenger side.
Inside the apartment, detectives found 0.8 grams of fentanyl, a digital scale and cutting agents in plain view on top of a bureau in Collazo’s bedroom, court records say.
