Special grand jury hands down indictments after drug raid in Steubenville | News, Sports, Jobs

STEUBENVILLE — Tashaon A. Coleman, 41, of Apartment 11, 483 Lovers Lane, was indicted by a special session of the Jefferson County grand jury on Friday in connection with a large drug bust.

Officers from the Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, Jefferson County Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Agency executed search warrants on June 18 at his apartment, a house at 528 Ross St. and on Coleman’s car.

Officers reported finding about 300 grams of suspected cocaine, laced with fentanyl, 20 grams of suspected heroin, laced with fentanyl, and 10 grams of what is believed to be pure fentanyl at 528 Ross St. Cash was located at Coleman’s residence, the county drug task force reported.

Coleman was arrested at his residence.

The drug task force obtained a third search warrant for the vehicle Coleman was driving, and it was searched at the Justice Center.

Officers reported finding one kilogram of cocaine, an estimated 300 grams of suspected heroin laced with fentanyl, cash and a pistol. The final tally of cash seized was $219,730, according to Coleman’s indictment.

Coleman was indicted on two separate counts of possession of cocaine, with specifications of being a major drug offender and a forfeiture of the cash, both first-degree felonies. He faces eight mandatory years in prison alone on the major drug offender specification. Coleman also was indicted on a second-degree felony of heroin possession, third degree possession of fentanyl and a charge of being in possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

Ja’Martay Wise, 22, of 1310 Lincoln Ave. was indicted by the grand jury on charges of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.

City Police believe Wise is one of three people responsible for firing shots at a man in the 400 block of South Street early June 15.

Detectives executed a search warrant at a residence at 450 S. Fifth St. shortly after noon June 18.

An officer on patrol saw Wise in a vehicle about 20 minutes later in the 500 block of South Street, pulled the vehicle over and took him into custody. An officer asked Wise if he had anything illegal on him and he pointed to a fanny pack around his waist. The officer reported finding a loaded handgun, cocaine and marijuana inside the pack.

Wise was not indicted in connection with the shots.

County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said the investigation continues.
