Taunton man arrested for drugs gets free advice from police – News – The Taunton Daily Gazette, Taunton, MA

TAUNTON — A city man was busted this week for a very small amount of narcotics. But a detective who took him into custody gave him a big piece of advice.

Jared Kimball, 28, is charged with one count of illegal possession of a Class A drug (Suboxone) and one count of possession to distribute a Class A drug (cocaine).

Kimball was arrested Tuesday afternoon as result of a search warrant in his apartment at 48 Myrtle St.

Police say when they encountered Kimball in his driveway standing with his girlfriend, their young daughter and a friend, he told them they could find some cocaine in the house that belonged to him.

The target item of the warrant, police said, was heroin, fentanyl or both.

Police said they confiscated $215 from Kimball’s pants pocket and in the apartment found a digital scale and sandwich bags that had been cut, indicating that narcotics were being sold.

The cocaine that was found on top of a flat plate of glass amounted to only a quarter-gram worth $20.

The prescription Suboxone strip, which is used to help people addicted to opioids, was worth $10, police said.

Kimball allegedly told police he’s out of work and has been dealing drugs to make ends meet and pay the rent.

He allegedly told police he mostly sells marijuana, some cocaine and “a little dope,” meaning heroin or fentanyl.

Police said Kimball stated he’s “not a big-time dealer or anything” and that he just buys enough drugs for his own use and “to sell to my friends and support my family.”

A that point, according to his police report, Detective Thomas Larkin gave him some advice.

“I informed Kimball he was under arrest for possession with intent to distribute and cautioned him about his poor life choices,” Larkin wrote, “especially dealing drugs out of the same apartment he shares with his young daughter and pregnant girlfriend.”

Kimball was released on his own recognizance the next day at his arraignment in Taunton District Court.

Police said they had been investigating his alleged drug-dealing during the past month.
