Tip leads to arrest of 2 Fall River men on fentanyl trafficking charges – News – The Herald News, Fall River, MA

FALL RIVER — Acting on a tip from a confidential informant, police arrested two city men Wednesday on fentanyl trafficking charges after officers allegedly found 14 grams of the highly potent opioid in the trunk of their car, according to police.

Seth Souza, 35, of 37 Saint James St., Apt. 3, and Ryan Carvalho, 33, of 30 Watson Way, each were charged with trafficking more than 10 grams of fentanyl, said Detective John Robinson. Carvalho was charged with two additional offenses of possession of a Class B and Class E substance.

Investigators received information from a confidential informant that a 2003 Toyota Echo would return to the city Wednesday via Interstate 195 eastbound carrying a large quantity of narcotics, according to Robinson.

“They were led to believe that this party was returning to the city loaded with illegal narcotics,” he said.

Police were granted a warrant to search the vehicle, which was registered to Souza, he said. Detective Gary Barboza saw Souza’s car exit the interstate and pulled the vehicle over on the Broadway extension.

After both men were detained, investigators searched the vehicle and allegedly found 14 grams of fentanyl — or about 701 doses — inside a coffee can that had been placed in the trunk, according to Robinson.

Officers seized $62 they found in Souza’s pocket and $2,160 they found in Carvalho’s pocket.

Shortly after investigators discovered the fentanyl, officers told Carvalho they had also been granted a warrant to search his Watson Way residence, said Robinson.

Carvalho was present as detectives carried out their search. Detectives allegedly found 10 pills of the nerve pain medication gabapentin and four Suboxone strips in his residence, he said.
