Toms River Man Was High During Fatal 2018 Head-On Crash: OCPO

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River man is accused of being high on fentanyl and morphine when he crashed head-on into a woman’s car on New Hampshire Avenue last year, killing her, the Ocean County prosecutor’s office said Friday.

Daniel Reed, 34, of Toms River, was arrested Friday and charged with vehicular homicide in the June 30, 2018 death of Jean Divona, 82, of Toms River, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.

Authotiries say Reed was driving his 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on New Hampshire Avenue when he crossed over the centerline and hit Divona’s 2005 Toyota Camry head-on.

Divona was taken to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Reed was taken from the scene of the crash to Community Medical Center in Toms River for a blood test. The test showed Reed was impaired by fentanyl and morphine at the time of the crash, Billhimer’s office said.

Reed was arrested Friday morning at his Toms River home by detectives from the prosecutor’s office and Toms River police.

Reed is being held at the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, awaiting a detention hearing.
