Toronto police recover assault-style rifle in Etobicoke gun and drugs raids

Toronto police have arrested two men and recovered three firearms, including an assault-style rifle, and a large quantity of cocaine and fentanyl following a pair of raids in Etobicoke on Sunday.

Officers from the city’s 31 Division executed search warrants at two addresses near Islington Ave. and Bloor St. and one vehicle associated with a 28-year-old man, according to a Monday news release. The two men were located at the first address and arrested without incident.

The search of the first address yielded a loaded 9 mm Taurus semi-automatic handgun, a loaded Ruger .380 semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, and “large quantities” of cocaine and fentanyl.

After searching the second address, police found a .22-calibre Mossberg assault-style rifle with ammunition, said the release.

One of the men allegedly provided police with false identification, and further investigation revealed he was wanted on multiple warrants by the London Police Service, police said.

Heysham Baity, 28, of Toronto, and Dominique Mossel, 28, of London, have been arrested.

The two men face a combined 45 charges, including multiple counts each of possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a restricted firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of cocaine and fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, one count each of obstruct a police officer and several other charges.

Both men were scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall Courts on Monday.
