19 Apr Two men sentenced to prison for dealing fentanyl at St. Louis housing complex | Law and order
ST. LOUIS • Two men who were dealing the powerful and deadly painkiller fentanyl at a St. Louis housing complex were sentenced to federal prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Daichi Horiace, 42, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and and Marquise Cortez Brown, 26, was sentenced to five years and 10 months.
Marquise Cortez Brown was sentenced in a drug conspiracy centered on a St. Louis housing complex.
Each pleaded guilty in January in U.S. District Court to one felony count of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
The pair were the first to be sentenced out of 15 originally indicted in the case. Those indictments followed a series of raids that recovered guns and drugs.
St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden visited the complex at the time of the indictment and said that more than 20 guns and about 2.5 kilograms (about 5.5 pounds) of heroin or fentanyl had been seized. He was there to encourage residents to help police fight the crime problem and offer assistance with education, training and jobs.
“Year to date, violent crime through March in the Peabody Neighborhood has gone down 59%. That statistic speaks to the positive impact that collaborative efforts such as these can have on a neighborhood and for that I’m very thankful,” Hayden said in a statement Thursday.
The indictment also contained allegations that other members of the gang murdered a competitor in 2016 and sold fentanyl that killed two customers.
