Uber driver asked to make suspected fentanyl delivery

MARIN COUNTY (KRON) – Authorities are searching for the suspects involved in a suspicious incident that led an Uber driver on a delivery of what appears to be fentanyl, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

On Feb. 9 between 10 and 11 p.m. an Uber driver was sent a request to pick up a woman in San Francisco with a destination in Tiburon.

Officials say after arriving at the San Francisco location, the driver was asked by a man to deliver a shoe box to the woman in Tiburon. The woman was who originally ordered the Uber ride.

The driver hesitated before agreeing to deliver the shoebox.

According to authorities, the driver became concerned about what was in the box after the ride request was canceled. After crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, the driver saw deputies on a Sausalito on-ramp and pulled over to ask for help.

Officials examined the box that the driver showed them and found a pair of sneakers with suspected fentanyl inside the right shoe.

The shoes have been put into evidence, according to the sheriff’s office, and are waiting for someone to claim them.

The substance that appears to be fentanyl is currently being tested, officers say.

No arrests have been made at this time as the department continues to search for the man and woman involved in the ride request.
