Wareham Police arrest a man for selling fentanyl after neighborhood complaints – News – Wicked Local

WAREHAM – Wareham Police arrested a 23-year-old man Tuesday for selling fentanyl after responding to resident complaints from the Indian Mound Beach area.

“Wareham Police Dept. detectives continue to keep up their aggressive enforcement of drug laws in the town of Wareham,” police stated in a release. “For several days, members of the detective division set up surveillance in the area of Indian Mound Beach after complaints by citizens of illegal drug activity.”

Police said detectives were making observations of 22 Tomahawk Drive on Tuesday, May 21, at about 1:15 p.m., and stopped a man on Cohasset Road after he left the house. As the detectives attempted to pat frisk the man, he pulled away, resisting the officer, police said. The man tried to flee, but was taken to the ground by the two detectives. After a brief struggle the suspect was placed in custody. Detectives located suspected fentanyl, an electric stun gun, two phones and $81 cash in the man’s possession, police said.

After the suspect was taken to the police station, detectives executed a search warrant for 22 Tomahawk Drive. At the location the detectives forcibly entered the home and confiscated $494 cash and a digital scale, police said.

Codey T. Murphy, 23, of 22 Tomahawk Drive, is being charged with possession with intent to distribute a class “A” drug-subsequent offense and resisting arrest. In October 2015, Murphy was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a class “A” drug after police officers conducted a 3 a.m. raid at that address. He was later found guilty of that charge in May 2016.

Acting Police Chief John Walcek said, “We have a very small detective unit, with only four officers, yet they are a dynamic and energetic group that work tirelessly.” He added, “The vigorous efforts of this unit and the rest of the police department will continue for the improvement of the quality of life of Wareham.”

Murphy posted $2,500 bail following arraignment in Wareham District Court. He had a pre-trial hearing set for June 11. He also has a pre-trial hearing set for June 21 in Falmouth District Court on separate charges out of Bourne for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, larceny under $1,200, breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony, carrying a firearm without a license and armed kidnapping for extortion. He was released on his own recognizance on those charges with the conditions he stay away from the alleged victim in that case and check in once a week with the Wareham District Court Probation Department. A Falmouth District Court official said a warrant had been issued for his arrest for violating those conditions, and Murphy was held to address that violation at Wareham District Court Wednesday despite posting bail.
