22 Apr West Chicago Man Caught With Coke, Fentanyl, Shrooms, Weed: Cops
WEST CHICAGO, IL — A West Chicago man faces up to 50 years in prison after police reportedly caught him with 462 grams of cocaine, 26 grams of fentanyl, 90 grams of mushrooms, and multiple duffel bags stuffed with nearly 3,000 grams of cannabis. Jason Gray, 41, of the 800 block of Burr Oaks Drive, was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver in connection with the April 17 incident.
Police say they also found a gun on Gray, which led to charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
According to a news release, police issued a search warrant for Gray’s home. While there, police say they found the narcotics in a safe and a .45-caliber Taurus handgun on top of the safe. Gray is also accused of stashing multiple duffel bags of weed in a nearby closet.
After the charges were filed, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin addressed the county’s ongoing opioid epidemic.
Berlin said, “In 2018, DuPage County suffered ninety-eight opioid deaths. Of those deaths, two thirds were fentanyl related. 26.1 grams of fentanyl is an extremely large amount capable of causing countless deaths. Thanks to the efforts of the West Chicago Police Department however, those 26.1 grams of fentanyl will never make it to the streets.”
Gray is currently being held in DuPage County Jail on $500,000 bond.
