Wilmington heroin, fentanyl dealer and gang member gets 13 years in federal prison

WILMINGTON — Wilmington resident and validated gang member Detrick Daye, 23, was sentenced to more than 13 years imprisonment for the distribution of heroin and fentanyl.

U.S. District Judge James Dever III sentenced Daye to 162 months of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. In November 2016, Daye pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute a quantity of heroin and fentanyl.

After a series of opioid overdoes in the New Hanover County Area, the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (NHCSO) began investigating a drug trafficking organization that Daye was a member of, according to the investigation.

Between September and December of 2017, the NHCSO made six controlled purchases of either heroin or a mixture of heroin and fentanyl mixture from Daye at various locations in Wilmington. Daye was arrested after the final controlled purchase in December 2017.

Law enforcement searched his residence and found a quantity of a heroin and fentanyl mixture.  Daye was a validated gang member, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the New Hanover County Narcotics Unit.
